Well, the main growing season is now over and Transitioners met at the plot on Sunday 8th November to tidy up and clear away in readiness for planting fruit trees and bushes at the end of the month. Whilst most crops were finished, it was great to see the Swiss chard still looking resplendent:

On Monday 14th September, the Zero Carbon Caravan will be coming through King’s Lynn:
The Zero Carbon Caravan (ZCC) will generate a mass movement of individuals and organisations to carry the message of action on climate change to the UNFCCC talks in Copenhagen (2009).
We are making our way to Copenhagen without using fossil fuel transportation. Along the route we’ll connect with local groups to establish an itinerary of ‘zero carbon conferences’ to build momentum for zero carbon awareness.
The ZCC will act as a coordinating hub for other ‘caravanning’ groups, encouraging worldwide participation to demand of the UNFCCC our mission: ‘A zero carbon world, as fast as we can’.
Find out more about the Zero Carbon Caravan here
Members of TKL will be joining the caravanners en route from Downham Market, picking up other cyclists along the route at Watlington and within King’s Lynn culminating in a picnic to be held at the Walks. An evening event will be held at the Green Quay from 7-9pm, where the zero carbon caravan members will be talking about their journey from Wales through to Copenhagen and talking to residents of King’s Lynn about their own efforts in working towards a zero carbon future.
It will be a great evening, so please join us!
If you would like to join in with cycling alongside the Zero Carbon Caravan on Monday 14th, please contact us via the contact page or email transition.kingslynn [at] googlemail.com.

Transition Garden Produce Giveaway Thursday, Aug 13 2009
Community and Events and Gardening and Reskilling 8:41 am
On Saturday 8th August, members of Transition King’s Lynn set up a stall in the Walks to give away some of the produce from the bed. The feedback from this was very positive, though some people were suspicious as to why we were giving it away for free, and others simply couldn’t bring themselves to take it for free, so gave donations (gratefully received!) Other surplus produce has been donated to a local homeless charity to be used by the cooks in their day centres.

Transition King’s Lynn Love Parks Friday, Aug 7 2009
Community and Events and Gardening and Transition Community, garden, King's Lynn, parks, Transition 8:55 pm
As part of Love Parks week, Transition King’s Lynn staged an event on Sunday 2nd August. This involved planting up lots more plants, including lavender donated by the Borough Council, and more vegetable and herb plants. Visitors to the bed were treated to a share in the harvest of salad leaves and French beans, and children were able to sow seeds of rocket, radish and oriental leaves in biodegradable origami pots to take away and plant at home.

Community and Transition Community, discussion, King's Lynn, Transition, yahoo 4:08 pm
There is now a Yahoo group where TKL members, friends and interested parties can join to discuss matters that interest them and they think will interest others. This should prove to be a lively focus for debate and discussion, as well as being a way of letting people know about events they may like to come to. Recent topics have included community owned wind turbines, discussion regarding re-opening the King’s Lynn to Hunstanton railway line and information about Green Buildings.
Don’t delay – join the group and have your say!

Transition King’s Lynn Planting and Picnic Day Friday, Jul 10 2009
Community and Events and Gardening and Transition Community, garden, King's Lynn, Transition, Walks 9:12 pm

On Sunday 5th July, TKL held our first public picnic/planting day at the bed in the Walks. The weather was kind to us – not too hot but no rain either and we had a good turn out of volunteers and interested members of the public. Plants were donated, cakes were eaten, names were added to the mailing list, suggestions were added to the post-it note collection of “one thing I can do/one thing King’s Lynn can do/one thing the government can do”. Comments once again laid great emphasis on the growing of food but also included transport issues and the use of solar panels, particularly in housing association owned properties. Several other groups joined us including the local Cub Scouts group, who set to work with some planting and watering; the Hardings Pits Community Association; the King’s Lynn Humanists, the Friends of the Walks and West Norfolk Conservation Volunteers and traditional games and an info board were provided by Abbey Farm.
The bed is starting to look both beautiful and productive with most plants showing good signs of growth and only the brassicas having been attacked by pigeons!
It was lovely to see so many people helping make this a very special community garden; hopefully we can keep up the momentum. If you would like to get involved with the garden, even if you only have very little time to spare then please let us know! “Every little helps”
With many thanks to Helen for the lovely photographs.
